Disorderly Conduct & Drunk and Disorderly Charges

Disorderly Conduct & Drunk and Disorderly Charges at Detroit Metro Airport (DTW):

Did you get charged with disorderly conduct or Drunk and Disorderly charges at DTW? You are not alone! Traveling for many can be a stressful experience. Add in the alcohol that’s available at several places, and it is a recipe for charges. Oftentimes, officers use disorderly conduct as a provision to remove an individual who is causing a disturbance.

At Detroit Metro Airport there are a few different ways that they can charge you.

State Law:

If they choose, they can charge you under the state disorderly conduct statute (MCL 750.167).

Among other things the state statute defines a disorderly person as a person who is found begging in a public place, a vagrant, a person who is intoxicated in a public place and who is either endangering directly the safety of another person or of property or is acting in a manner that causes a public disturbance.

This is a misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment up to 90 days or a fine of up to $500.

Wayne County Airport Authority Ordinance:

If charged for disorderly at Wayne County Airport, it is more common that you will be charged under the Wayne County airport Authority Ordinance under Section 6.27 which states:

“A Person shall not make or excite any disturbance or contention at or in any Authority or Airport business place, street, public building, grounds or park, sidewalk, parking lot, parking deck, hotel, terminal, concourse, or public meeting where citizens are peaceably and lawfully assembled”

If you are charged with disorderly conduct or drunk and disorderly at DTW, regardless of how you are charged, your case will be heard at 34th district court in Romulus. This offense is also a misdemeanor with jail time up to 90 days and a fine of up to $500. While like other DTW airport offenses, it is unlikely that you will get jail time, a criminal conviction could have unintended consequences for things such as immigration, security clearances and even job prospects.
